We all remember the sweet voice of Connie Francis and her popular hit “Where the Boys Are.”What we may not have known is where the best Biscotti are … However, Connie Francis and her father, Franco, knew. Franco came to DiPaolo’s Bakery every morning for a freshly baked loaf of Italian bread, while Connie, from Essex Fells, would order pastry for all her social functions from Vincent DiPaolo.
Vicent got his start at a very young age. While he attended grammar school he worked part time at a local bakery in the town of Abruzzo, east of Rome. Upon moving to the United States he continued to work in a local bakery while finishing high school. By age twenty, Vincent opened his first small bakery in Newark, NJ. As word of his delectable delights spread, business grew steadily. When many of his customers began moving from Newark to Verona in the 1980’s, Vincent knew he needed to follow them. His instinct was correct; he has been baking for his customers for over 45 years.
Some of the flavors of cakes available are: Rum Cake coated with sliced almonds, Cannoli Cake, Seven Layers, Tiramisu, Black Forest, and Lemon Coconut. Vincent makes it a point to carry a specialty flavor every week for his loyal clientele. In addition, DiPaolo’s Bakery carries an assortment of cookies, pastries, and breads baked daily on the premises.
